Buddy Baker – Haunted Mansion Sequence

This sequence is based on the spooky organ melody that begins the tour of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion.

Background

I was inspired to do this sequence by my friend Bruce Chrisp, who plays principal trombone in almost every Bay-Area regional orchestra.

Bruce and I were playing “guess that movie theme” on a break from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker when he stumped me with this theme. Apparently, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion theme is a favorite warm up tune for LA based Bass Trombonist and 3-D printed mute mogul, Steve Trapani. Seriously, check out those BEAUTIFUL MUTES.

When I looked up the tune and saw it was written by my long lost brother Buddy Baker, I knew it had to become a #GetFluent sequence.

Sequence

This melody is introduced by an organ. Organs cannot slur, so make sure each note is full value but starts clearly, with “push button immediacy”.

The clever twists and leaps of this melody make it sound spooky. Strive to sing through the tritones and 7ths so they really lock in and build the musical tension.

Lastly, choose your dynamic before you begin. This is a great sequence for challenging your EXTREME soft dynamics. Strive for even sounds and ease of production.
