Cinderella – Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Sequence

This sequence is based on the magical song from Disney’s Cinderella, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo.

Background

The song was written in 1948 by  Al HoffmanMack David, and Jerry Livingston, and released with the film in 1950. The song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1951 but lost out to “Mona Lisa” which was a #1 hit for the legendary Nat King Cole.

Since then, it has gone on to get stuck in the heads of every parent for the last 69 years.

The lyrics are some silly magical gibberish words, meant to sound like a spell, but have been used a number of times in other popular shows and movies. They were were algebraically analyzed in a math lesson by Mr. Garrison in the South Park episode “Royal Pudding“. Akira Toriyama used the lyrics as inspiration for naming evil wizards in his Dragon Ball series.

Sequence

Strive for a clear sound with some sparkle in the articulation. Create some direction through the repeated notes and scale passages, and have fun as you bounce along through the phrases.

This sequence is a nice blend of chromatic and diatonic scales that will be great for dialing in your half steps and whole steps (I’m looking at you, fellow trombonists).

I hope this song about a magical transformation gets you in the mood for a fun holiday season!
