- Musical Excellence
- I am an active professional that performs on Bass Trombone and Euphonium with world class ensembles like the Detroit Symphony. I set a clear example of musical excellence for my students to follow.
- I am also experienced in non-classical genres like fuck, blues, rock, R&B, and jazz. I worked as trombonist/manager for the Sam Cockrell Band, lead by Chicago Blues Hall-of-famer Sam Cockrell, for the last 5 years.
- I am a role model. I earned over a 4.0 gpa at Las Lomas, graduated Cum Laude from UCLA, and earned my Masters in Music from Northwestern University. I have relentlessly pursued my dream of making music at the highest possible level, and now make my living playing and teaching.
- Teaching Experience
- I have taught privately for over 10 years. My students have blossomed into scholarship earning undergraduates, and have won positions in the Illinois All-State Orchestra and other district honor ensembles.
- I teach more than just notes and rhythms. I work closely with my brother John Baker, mental skills coach for the Cubs and former Major League baseball player, to develop ways to instill a Growth Mindset and teach mindfulness through meditation.
- Local
- I grew up in Walnut Creek. I went to Buena Vista, WCI, and Las Lomas. I feel lucky to have grown up here, and would love to make an impact on the next generation of WC musicians.
